Two of the most highly anticipated phones of the year. Both the Cherry Mobile Titan and the Cherry Mobile Flare took the country by storm, the latter producing massive amount of people lining up to get their hands on the affordable dual cores.  In my humble opinion, since Starmobile, Cherry and MyPhone are all phone rebranders, people would of course, choose the cheaper ones as rebranded phones tend to have the tendency of breakage. So mostly, at least most that I know of, prefer the cheaper one if they were to get a rebranded phone.

What made the Titan and the Flare stand-out and famous are its affordable price featured with specifications potentially matching those of the higher end types. The Titan’s Giant 5 Inch Screen partnered with a Dual Core prowess may remind others of the Famous Phablet Galaxy Note 1 (The Titan is NOT a Phablet). The Flare, on the other hand, will VAGUELY remind you of the famous Flagship of last year, the Samsung Galaxy S2. Flare offers a 4 inch screen with two cores priced at a measly P4000. At that price range, the best you could probably get are those low end, branded phones like Galaxy Y, Galaxy Mini 2 or Galaxy Pocket.

With the Two Giants constantly causing debates over which would be the better choice, I have made this review to pit them against each other in a test of strength, color, sound, camera and speed.
DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE MY PREFERENCE, I’M NOT SAYING WHAT I PICKED IS BETTER, WHAT I PICK IS WHAT I PREFER.

1.       BOX CONTENTS
2.

The Package are basically the same both units come with a manual for display and disposal, a lame headset, a USB Cable and a Charger.
The Titan offers a free flip cover.
Winner: TIE
The stock USB cable in the Flare is much more rugged than the Titan, but the Titan has a free back flip cover both are really not a big deal.

2. PHONE SUPERFICIALITY

This part is by an individual’s preference, some prefer bigger some prefer smaller. Both phones feel and look like an executive phone and both phones cone with pre installed screen protectors! Yahoo! Important to know, the Titan’s back covers are rougher and are fingerprint magnets whereas the Flarea has a smooth back. Cases are to come soon.
                Winner: Flare
The Flares back feels so good to rub, its so smooth and it does not attract finger prints. With massive usage your Titan can look cheap in no time.

3. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

3.1 Speakers
This is a no-brainer. Though Cherry and other rebranders seem to be famous in the l;oudness department of phone regardless speaker or loudspeaker, Flare feels like its audio department was not given that much effort. Earphones plugged, the quality is horrendous with respect to Samsung Galaxy S2. Don’t get me wrong, the Titan’s sound output actually impressed me a lot especially after hearing the Flare.
                Winner: Titan
                No-brainer.

3.2 Display

The Titan seems to have paler colors than that of the Flare, but switching to deep-color mode changes the story. The amount of yellow on the Titan makes me torn on which I prefer but pixelations are obvious at the Titan whereas the Flare’s display has much crisp and the colors are much more vibrant.
                Winner: Flare
Despite the Titan’s deep-color mode, I would give this title to the Flare. Colors present in this phone make it feel more expensive. Generally the colors on the Flare are much better as the Titan tends to exaggerate on colors. The video showed me preferring the Titan because of the amount of Yellow.

3.3 Gaming

Ahhh games, Android user’s anti-boredom/ time killing feature. Whether it be casual mainstream games or hardcore HD games, both these phones run most of the games quite well. Both of them offer 2 Point touch which is at times, disappointing. As far as gaming is concerned, the Titan plays and feels much smoother.
                Winner: Titan
See the video of both device playing Temple Run

3.4 Camera

Flare Image 1

Flare 2

Titan1

Titan2

Titan3

One of the most important factor for me. This is also a no- brainer as the Flare offers much better shots.
                Winner: Flare
As seen from the photos, Titan offers obvious noise unlike the Flare which captures great quality images, even after zooming with the Flare, images are still crisp.

3.5 Need for Speed (9 out of 10)

RAM and Clockspeed Review

Many of you might wonder, what is RAM and the clockspeed for? Should I go for higher RAM, less clock or vice versa? The answer depends on how you use the phone. Random Acess Memory (RAM) is used to determine how many apps your unit can run simultaneously. So bigger RAM means you can multi-task much more applications without worrying about lagging on the system.

Clockspeed is used to determine how fast your system will run a certain application. Simply put, higher clockspeed means faster phone. THIS IS THE GENERAL IDEA ON RAM AND CLOCKSPEED. Factors on speed are also determined by the chipset architecture, GPU, etc.

This category falls to the Titan. Flare is fast but with much apps installed, it shows considerable lags. The Titan remains fast even after almost filling up the space for appps.
                Winner: Titan
Watch the Video for speed analysis.

3.6 User-Friendliness

Both sport Android 4.0.4 on release. Both are basically the Same but the Titan has added features such as many pre installed live wallpapers and the Face Unlock. Unfortunately for the Flare it has no Face Unlock out of the box
                Winner: Titan
For me, More features, much better.

3.7 Battery
I have tested both of them, sad to say, both are the same as with all my androids, they need overnight charging and with moderate usage ( Movie watching, casual gaming, texting, calling, music). Both of them can barely stay for a day.
                Winner: Tie
Both Android, both expected to have poor battery life.

CONCLUSION

Bang for the Buck
Dual-Core, Dual Cam and of course, Dual-Sim both these phones are for everyone.  The fight may be inclined into the Titan’s favor but hey, its our own preference, want bigger, faster but at the cost of lame camera ? Go for Titan! Tight on budget and want a good camera phone at the cost of audio? Go for Flare. The flaws of both phones are tolerable given their prices. If you want phones nearing perfection look at the branded phones. With the low prices of both these phone, compromises are a must!

FOR A REBRANDED PHONE, BOTH OF THEM ARE GREAT!

  2. Nice Review. Just a question. The Titan's Battery only last a day? really? :( sad to know. :( I thought 2350mAh would be a good deal for a 5" screen... but on the other hand maybe it's the 5' screen that drunk all of the juice up. :(

  3. thanks to both of you :)

as i have experienced, most android phones only last a day, unless you only use it for text. In standby mode, or text mode, it can last more than a day, but since I bought android for gaming, music, video, the battery drains pretty quickly.
The 5 inch screen is really the benefactor to its battery usage :O

  8. By using proper and stylish mobile cases, you can enhance the look of your mobile phone. By applying different cases, iPhone looks great as we seen above. It also protects the phone from damages from falling.
