Among
the Rebranders out there, Cherry Mobile seems to be the one to have a virtually
unlimited releases releasing different Phones almost every two weeks, they have
been on an absolute tear ever since the Titan and the upcoming Fusion Bolt is
another thing to look out for. For now, Cherry Mobile recently released the
Cherry Mobile Cruize, a budget friendly Phablet-like phone. As much as the
flame that I will get from expert smart-ass Filipino crab-mented peeps from
making a battle between a dual core and a single core, look at it this way,
Samsung Galaxy Note 1 and Samsung Galaxy S3 were also compared and both phones
have twice the cores of Cruize and Flare. Think if this as a parody to a Note 1
vs S3 and just enjoy the ride. Priced at P4500 (Cruize) and P4000(Flare), these
two phones seem a better match in terms of price range as compared to my Flare
VS Titan. So without further ado, I Present to you, Cherry Mobile’s hottest
phone, Cherry Mobile Flare vs their Phabletish Cherry Mobile Cruize!
DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE MY PREFERENCE,
I’M NOT SAYING WHAT I PICKED IS BETTER, WHAT I PICK IS WHAT I PREFER.
1. BOX
CONTENTS
Both packages carry
a USB Cable, Charger, Headset, and
Manuals. Cruize’s charger look different from Flare
but I have to assume both are low quality chagers ( I do not use cheap chargers
as I use a Green Heart Charger from my Xperia Arc S). The only difference between
the two with respect to package is their boxes.
Winner: TIE
2. PHONE SUPERFICIALITY
This part is by an
individual’s preference, Flare offers a 4.3 Inch Screen with a non-finger print
magnetic back, whereas the Cruize is a 5.2 Inch Baby with a smooth back cover. Both
phones carry their volume rocker at the side and both offers 4 Capacitive touch
buttons.
Winner:
TIE
3. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
3.1 Speakers
A staple for
rebranders is its speaker. May it be loudspeaker or earplugs attached, speakers
is a must, at least in my experience with rebranders. Pitting both of them on loudspeaker, both offers good quality
but I have to give this one to the Cruize as it has a louder yet still clear
quality. As for headsets attached, this also goes to the Cruize, I just hate
Flare’s low volume audio quality.
Note: I used their stock music player and TTPOD to test the speakers.
And yes I know there are tweaks to further increase Flare’s volume. I would
like to tell you not everyone has the luxury, knowledge or effort to
POTENTIALLY brick their phone.
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Cruize
3.2 Display
Both phones offer 800x480 resolution and as you may have guessed, display
on the bigger Cruize is much paler, display looks stretched at times and, unlike
the Titan, it does not have a feature to change color mode. As for the Flare,
the resolution fits the screen nicely, no significant stretching or any other
eyestraining shit. Video playing is also better on the Flare as observable on
the Video.
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Flare
3.3 Gaming
Who does not play
games on their Android? As for both these phones, gameplay is much more fluent
on the Flare. Both are able to play mainstream games like fruit ninja, jet pack
joyride, etc. but lags can be noticeable on the Cruize (as demonstrated on the
video). Playing fast paced games such as Temple Run 2 will surely strain your
eyes as the display lags as Guy Dangerous runs. As for HD Gaming, both phones
are not suited for the task, but the Flare has shown siginificant power over
the Cruize as it is able to play my favourite HD Game NBA 2k13.
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Flare
3.4 Camera
This could have
been a contest, but the win just goes to the Flare. I have to point out again,
Cherry Mobile Flare has one of the best rebranded camera out there. Cruize has
a decent camera which is able to shoot at 8Mp but Flare is better and faster.
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Flare
3.5 Need for Speed
RAM and Clockspeed Review
Many of you might
wonder, what is RAM and the clockspeed for? Should I go for higher RAM, less
clock or vice versa? The answer depends on how you use the phone. Random Acess
Memory (RAM) is used to determine how many apps your unit can run
simultaneously. So bigger RAM means you can multi-task much more applications
without worrying about lagging on the system.
Clockspeed is used
to determine how fast your system will run a certain application. Simply put,
higher clockspeed means faster phone. THIS IS THE GENERAL IDEA ON RAM AND
CLOCKSPEED. Factors on speed are also determined by the chipset architecture,
GPU, etc.
Cherry Mobile
Cruize carries an single unidentified 1Ghz processor whereas the Flare carries
a seemingly popular Dual 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor. I think the answer is
obvious as to who has the better processor.
As for the RAM,
both phones carry the staple 512MB, of course, since Flare has the better
processor, you can expect better performance from it than that of the Cruize.
Both phones have
2GB user-accesible storag
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Flare
Watch the Video for speed analysis.
3.6 User-Friendliness
Both sport Android
4.0.4 on release. In terms of user-experience, barring the speed, both do not
offer anything the other can’t, everything done on the Flare may seem as
stretched version on the Cruize and everything done by the Cruize is a scaled
down version on the Flare. Both phones are very user friendly and one can
immediately familiarize themselves in no time.
Winner:
TIE
3.7 Battery
This is a no-contest as Cruize
clearly has the better battery not just with respect to its 2500mah battery but
also to its screen size, as big as its screen maybe, on 6 hours standby, the
battery only dropped to about 3%. One of the major flaw Flare had was its
abysmal battery life, which, along with its disappointing audio quality, made
me find another. Using both phones heavily will give you a clear cut answer on
which performs better.
.
Winner:
Cherry Mobile Cruize
CONCLUSION
Flare On or Cruize On?
Again, as douchy as
I may sound, I have a painstakingly hard time picking a winner as one will suit
a certain group of people and the same for the other. Its another Personal
Preference type match where the users decide which feature is more important to
them. Is speed, display and camera important to you? Go with the Flare. Love
playing music, prefer bigger screen and an amazing battery? Go with the Cruize.
Same as with other rebranders, you can’t have everything on one, sacrifices
will always be made!
AGAIN, THESE ARE BASED ON MY PREFERENCE, I DON’T THINK ANY OF THE TWO IS
A BAD CHOICE.
FOR A REBRANDED PHONE, BOTH OF THEM ARE GREAT!
NEXT UP, THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NOTE 2 VS IP5, Fusion Bolt, and other
more! Stay tuned!
