            After releasing Cherry Mobile Flare, arguably the hottest rebranded phone EVER as of now, Cherry had continuously released and released and released numerous phones that I can’t even keep up with the pace. Recently, Cherry released a phone with arguable same specifications as that of the Flare, barring the lower clock of Burst. Now, only one question comes, which phone is better? The answer will be viewed on my next blog entry. For now let us look at the Cherry Mobile Burst, see if it can be a fitting proxy for the Flare.

1. THE PACKAGE (8.1 out of 10)

1.1 The BOX

            Carmel-colored box with descriptions at the box you see on almost every Cherry mobile release, nothing new nothing special.

1.2 What’s in the Box?

                Cherry Mobile Burst offers nothing that has already been seen and tested over the past few months; the Charger even looks the same as that of the Flare. The package includes: the charger, standard earphones, and a USB Cable.

2. PHONE SUPERFICIALITY (9.7 out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile Cruize is a 4 Inch Screen phone that strongly resembles a Nexus phone which makes it a very expensive looking phone at first sight. It is sleek and sexy. As with most of the phones of this Generation, the sides offer the volume rocker and the power button and the top and bottom houses the 3.5mm jack and the microUSB port respectively. Overall this has to be the one of the best looking rebranded phone out there.

3. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

3.1 Speakers (9.4 out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile has captured my heart once more with sound quality goodness of the Cherry Mobile Cruize, as I said before, Cherry had been a sinusoidal brand but that belief was broken by this phones’ amazing audio output. It has a loud loudspeaker with little distortion at maximum volume and it also has great audio quality headsets attached. Definitely better than Flare or SkyFire.

3.2 Display / Video Playback (8.7 out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile Burst sports a 4 Inch screen with an 800x480 resolution. It also has IPS display. Having the aforementioned specifications, Burst has a nice display with a nice blend of saturation; the IPS display gives you great viewing angles.

As for Video Playback, Burst also suffers the inability to play 720p videos, but everything under works fine. I have tested a 720p 225MB, 480p 65MB video, 777MB Video and a WMV file and both played smoothly. Again I highly recommend MX Player Pro for hassle free video playback.

3.3 Gaming (7.9 out of 10)

                Android is known for its huge number of games and its ability to run on it virtually any Android-powered device. Burst is no exception to this power as it was able to play mainstream games very smoothly. As for HD Gaming, it runs NBA 2k13 but gameplay is definitely not as smooth as you may want, it’s tolerable but not recommended. For the nth time, Qualcomm chips on rebranded phones do not play HD Games well, Mediatek’s MT6577 chips will give you smoother and better gaming experience if you want cheap HD Android gaming.  Stick to Casual Gaming with Cherry Mobile Burst!

           

3.4 Camera (6.4 out of 10)

Finally a Titan-like phone, photos are quite nice when viewed normally but zooming shows you a different story. It has a nice saturation. Though I would like to point out that its stock camera does not have a very good Auto-focus, macro-shooting can be a pain. I’m pretty sure some camera applications on the market will fill this hole nicely.

3.5 Need for Speed (8.7 out of 10)

RAM and Clockspeed Review

                Many of you might wonder, what are RAM and the Clockspeed for? Should I go for higher RAM, fewer clocks or vice versa? The answer depends on how you use the phone. Random Access Memory (RAM) is used to determine how many apps your unit can run simultaneously. So bigger RAM means you can multi-task much more applications without worrying about lagging on the system.

                Clockspeed is used to determine how fast your system will run a certain application. Simply put, higher Clockspeed means faster phone. THIS IS THE GENERAL IDEA ON RAM AND CLOCKSPEED. Factors on speed are also determined by the chipset architecture, GPU, etc.

Sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm processor partnered with a 512MB RAM, Burst was able to perform miniscule applications smoothly, swiping between screens is a fast and smooth. The only lags I noticed were loading my fully-loaded SD Card. Other than that the phone runs pretty smoothly. Again lags on HD Games is very apparent especially if you have filled your RAM.

 As for its Internal Storage, 1GB is generously dedicated to apps and 1.88GB is user accessible.

3.6 User-Friendliness (8.9 out of 10)

                Another ICS powered device, if you have been a fan of my blog, you know that I will definitely say that Android is a very user friendly OS that only requires common sense in navigating. I don’t even think reading skills are needed as my three year old niece can navigate my phone to play Games. Customization combinations are second to none with the Android OS.

NOTE: BURST ONLY HAS A TWO POINT MULTITOUCH

3.7 Battery (8.5 out of 10)

Burst sports a measly 1500mah battery but I have noticed significant battery improvements over the Flare on INITIAL USE. I don’t think Burst’s battery will outlast the Flare greatly but initial observations show Burst has the better one. I have fully charged the Burst yesterday(March 11) at about 9am, and played music for about 4 Hours with a Bluetooth headset, with slight texting, it still has 35% as of now (March 12, 9.30am).

CONCLUSION

BURSTING WITH FLYING COLORS! (8.61 Out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile attempted to release another Cherry Mobile Flarey phone. Initially I suspected it to be painstakingly similar but it has shown drastic improvements on sounds and few tweaks to Cherry Mobile Flare, though on some aspects, Flare still outshines Burst, I will quickly do a follow up review pitting both but setting the Flare aside, Burst may need to get credit more than it deserve as it is truly another phone that packs quite a punch without doing so on your wallet. Burst has performed well on tasks I need a phone to perform well and it is Music, Camera, and Video Playback, if these three are also what you look for a phone, then Burst maybe for you to!

            Finally! After a month of absence in the world of blogging due to countless project and submission of requirements (I’m a 5^th year hopefully Graduating Student by April 4), I am back! I originally planned to do a review about Samsung Galaxy Note 2 VS Apple iPhone 5, but I think it deserves much time of researching and experience before one can do a mildly respectable review. So for now, I intend to sharpen my reviewing skills by reviewing another hot phone on the market. Better late than never I suppose.

Having been a Phablet fan ever since Note 1, my love for this type was further amplified by acquisition of the Fantastic Galaxy Note 2. Cherry then released a BIG device. I’m not sure if Cherry Mobile Cruize can be considered a Phablet, but IN TERMS OF SIZE WITH RESPECT TO GALAXY NOTE 1, I will, for the sake of this review, consider this phone a PHABLET.

Admittedly, I see Cherry now as a sinusoidal brand, sometimes well sometimes bad sometimes neutral. Cherry MobileFlare was a huge hit but I personally did not like it, but it was indeed a good phone. Cherry Mobile SkyFire was the worst among all the Cherry Mobile Phones that I reviewed and Cherry Mobile Titan was the best. So with its ups and down with respect to my taste, Where will this Phablet stand? Read on and find out!

1. THE PACKAGE (8.3 out of 10)

1.1 The BOX

            A huge Purple box screams cool!

1.2 What’s in the Box?

                Cherry Mobile Cruize offers nothing that has already been seen and tested over the past few months, though you will notice it has a better looking Charger than SkyFire, Titan and Flare. The package includes: the white charger, standard earphones, and a USB Cable.

2. PHONE SUPERFICIALITY (9.4 out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile Cruize is a 5.2 Inch Screen phone that actually looks and feels like that of the higher end models, it’s not as fat as the Titan and it does not feel as awkward and heavy for its size. It has a unique back that is very touchy. The sides house the Power Buttons and the Volume Rocker whiles the bottom and the top houses the mouse and the microUSB port and 3.5mm jack, respectively.

3. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

3.1 Speakers (9.1 out of 10)

                Out of the three Cherry Phones, only the Titan had the respectable stock audio quality. Not everyone has the capability to Tinker to increase the sound of their phones. Fortunately for music lovers, Cruize offers a respectable audio quality be it loudspeaker or headsets, and that is just using the Stock headsets, using better quality earphones/buds/sets obviously gives you better audio output. Music playing will surely be a better experience with respect to Flare and SkyFire.

3.2 Display / Video Playback (7.3 out of 10)

                P4500 on a 5.3 Inch Screen and you guessed it right. The display resolution is 800x480, same as the Titan. Cruize’s display looks pale and stretched, its simply not pleasing to the eyes. Unlike the Titan it does not have modes to change display mode and at maximum brightness it has poor viewing angles. As for Video Playback, the stock video player can only play a limited number of video types, it cannot play or detect avi files and wmv, fortunately you can use other third party apps, MX Player Pro perhaps?  Another unfortunate weakness of this Phablet is its inability to play 720p videos smoothly, refer to the video to see how it lags on playing 720p 220Mb Big Bang Theory.

3.3 Gaming (7.2 out of 10)

                Android is known for its huge number of games and its ability to run on it virtually any Android-powered device. As for the Cruize, it is able to play mainstream games smoothly, what I did notice is its display when playing games the likes of Temple Run 2, the visuals feel like they lag. Gaming is smooth but prolonged gaming will strain your eyes, I don’t recommend playing fast paced games on this device. As for HD Gaming, my staple NBA 2k13 test has finally failed, and failed very miserably, you will come to the point where you think you can play it but it crashes right before the game. Bummer.

           

3.4 Camera (7.1 out of 10)

Unfortunately for the Titan, Cruize won’t join him in bad camera phones section. Cruize’s image quality is not bad, mostly subpar but the quality is tolerable for snapshots here and there. As with the other section, the most evident flaw in this phone is its very slow camera interface and slow shutter speed, taking pictures takes longer than your average camera phone and a simple budge ruins your picture.

3.5 Need for Speed (8.3 out of 10)

Coming from a bunch of dual-cores and a quad-core and then another dual-core comparable to a quad-core, lags were negligible to none. Swiping between screens, opening applications, multi-tasking were done quickly. For the Cruize, I am yet to review a rebranded 1 GHz CPU, but with respect to phone released on its timeline, this has to be one of the slowest, and it’s not that slow but compared to dual-cores with almost the same price this phone lags two laps behind.

As for its Internal Storage, 775MB is generously dedicated to apps and 2GB is user accessible.

3.6 User-Friendliness (9.2 out of 10)

                Another staple for rebranders is its ICS Android OS out of the box, fortunately, Cruize also has it. Anyone will surely be able to familiarize with the phone in a few minutes. Hundreds of customization is available at Google Store to satisfy your insatiable hunger for phone individuality.

3.7 Battery (9.6 out of 10)

Finally! A strong suit! Cherry Mobile Cruize offers a whopping 2500mah battery which actually performs as it is intended. I am yet to stress test the battery but on 2 hours stand by, the battery only dropped 2%. This phone should definitely last you a day.

CONCLUSION

YOU’RE GONNA FLY AWAY! (8.425 out of 10)

                Cherry Mobile has been on a roll lately releasing hits such as Flare, Titan, SkyFire, Flame, Omega, Blaze and the upcoming Fusion Bolt. Along with the aforementioned was Cherry Mobile Cruize. This maybe to capture niche Phablet audiences, as much as it looks and feels expensive, its performance is way below its siblings. With the staple now of being a Dual-cored device, Cruize feels like it got lost in a shuffle. As much as I hate being a critic on a device, as an amateur reviewer, I prefer to tell the truth rather than be a suck-up and biased to a brand. Don’t get me wrong, I do not hate the Cruize, personally, this phone suits my ‘back-up phone’ needs. As for the community, most would always choose the one with better value for money and honestly, with a huge number of alternatives, Cruize may not be picked as much as it should. For music and video playing on the go, Cruize is recommendable especially to those who prefer bigger screened phones but are tight on budget, again, don’t expect as much so you won’t get disappointed in the long run ok?

THE LEGEND OF THE SKYFIRE:

            Once upon a time, a mighty giant named Titan ruled the land, he was one of the Three Kings which ruled over the planet R-Brandrz, along with Thrill and Duos, each of them ruled over a specific domain, Titan ruled the lands, Thrill the underworld and Duos the Sky. They were now  at peace after The Great War. One day, as Titan was roaming around the land, he saw a beautiful woman named Flare, it was lust at first sight as their first meeting led to another, the news spread quickly and Titan was embarrassed of her actions, Flare took all the blame for King Titan and bore a lovely child, which she named SkyFire, the embarrassment by Flare and Titan was too much both of them went to hiding. This is the reason why Flare and Titan are rarely seen. SkyFire, grew up with the help of the people because they knew that Titan and Flare were both good they knew that their child would also grow up the same. Now SkyFire showed her true colors and powers and amazed people with its unique mixture from both its Father, Titan, and Mother, Flare.

THE BATTLE BEGINS:

               Before everything, I would like to thank you guys for the unwavering support. Currently, my mentor, Claumellie, told me I had surpassed her blog with respect to views, her blog can be seen HERE. If it wasn’t for her and you guys I wouldn’t be here. So thanks guys!

Now, before I get my hands on Cherry Mobile Blaze, and the rumoured Cherry Mobile Omega, I will first consider pitting the three phones I currently have. Now before you say anything stupid, let me make this point as to why this would be a triple threat match. After acquiring Cherry Mobile SkyFire, I had a hard time as to which I should compare it to as it both resembled the Cherry Mobile Flare and the Cherry Mobile Titan, I even concluded that SkyFire is the child of both Titan and Flare, read the story above. As to why, read on and find out!

1.       BOX CONTENTS

  

The three packages carry a USB Cable, Charger, Headset, and Manuals. The Titan has a free flip cover whereas the other two had none. NOTE: SkyFire comes with a 4GB memory card. All of their packages are not that impressive, but they do function well, function well as in not exploding Charger, ehem, Cloudfone Thrill 430x.

                Winner: TIE

2. PHONE SUPERFICIALITY

                Hands down, this would have to go to SkyFire. Don’t get me wrong, the three of them look great but the SkyFire pulls itself away because of its relatively big screen partnered with a light weight and thin body, it even looks like a branded phone, Google Nexus, credits to Brilie Viray. Both the Titan and Flare maybe big for some people, the Titan’s heavy weight is definitely a minus one.

                Winner: SKYFIRE

                

3. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

3.1 Speakers

                Finally, the battle starts to heat up, but this section is still a no-brainer as the Titan wipes the floor against Flare and SkyFire. If you are a music geek, definitely go for the Titan, be it loudspeaker or headphones attached, Titan is the best.

            As for Flare and SkyFire, headphones attached, comparison is painstakingly hard and annoying, listening to both after you listen to Titan is very disappointing, both phones’ sound is definitely below below average and subpar. The volume is soft even with a good headset with good quality audio.

                Winner: TITAN

                       

                TITAN WINS. PERIOD NO ERASE.

3.2 Display

                The three phones offer 800x480, but the three differ in screen size, 5, 4.7, 4, Titan, SkyFire, Flare, respectively. The Titan has the worst display because the display looks stretched out, SkyFire also suffers the same fate as Titan, but it is not as bad. I have seen both of them without screen protector; both of them look pale and stretched out. The Flare’s 4 Inch Screen, on the other hand, is pretty impressive. The three devices can pretty much play any videos, barring 1080p videos and videos over 1GB.

                Winner: FLARE

                

3.3 Gaming

                Powered by Snapdragon, Flare has no say in this department. Yes, the Flare does play mainstream games, good, not great, but when it is HD Gaming, it lags, it’s slow and it sucks. As for SkyFire or Titan, both are powered with the same MT6577, the gameplay experience would differ by preference of screen size. Both devices play HD Games quite well and playing mainstream games is very smooth.

                Winner: TIE – Between SkyFire and Titan

3.4 Camera

                Finally, the Titan takes a rest. Out of the three, no questions asked, the Titan has the worst camera. The Flare and the SkyFire trade blows for better camera, I see no significant difference between the two cameras except the Flare has a larger file size and a resolution of 2592x1944 whilst the SkyFire has a resolution of 2560x1920.

                Winner: TIE -  Between Flare and SkyFire

                

3.5 Need for Speed

                Both Titan and SkyFire carry Mediatek MT6577 1GHz dual-core processor with the same PowerVR SGX531 GPU whereas Flare uses 1.2GHz dual-core qualcomm snapdragon processor. When a bunch of applications is installed on the phones, significant slowdown can be observed on the Flare. The Flare is initially slower than both SkyFire and Titan.

                Winner: TIE between Titan and SkyFire

               

3.6 User-Friendliness

                The three sport Android 4.0.4 on release. Exploring the phones, you get the same pre-installed apps and same launcher, even the same set of wall papers. If you will try Android for the first time, I don’t see any significant difference to alter the Android experience from one phone to another.

                Winner: TIE

3.7 Battery

                This is definitely a No-Brainer. Cherry Mobile Flare’s hype was dampened due to its abysmal battery life. The SkyFire seem to suffer the same fate as discharge rate is just too fast, both device will barely last 8 hours of use. The Titan wins this competition with its rather huge battery life that actually lasts a day.

                Winner: TITAN

CONCLUSION

FATHER, MOTHER, DAUGHTER

                So why did I say this phone is the child of Titan and Flare? You can see that SkyFire is a cheaper Titan or a much expensive Titan. SkyFire resembles the Titan in terms of speed and display, it also resembles the Flare in terms of camera, abysmal sound, horrendous battery life.

            The winner of the three will, as usual, be based upon your personal preferences, if you someone who are short on budget, go for the Flare, if you want a cheaper, lighter and smaller Titan, go with the SkyFire, the pros and the cons of each phone are almost too balanced you will also have a hard time choosing, if I were to be asked I would go for the Titan, mainly because I will only use it as a back-up phone like listening to music or watching movies when travelling. The verdict on an overall decision is impossible especially if you had tried them all for yourself. Whichever you chose has its own pros and cons, you just have to pick which will suit your needs.

AGAIN, THESE ARE BASED ON MY PREFERENCE; I DON’T THINK ANY OF THE THREE IS A BAD CHOICE.

FOR A REBRANDED PHONE, ALL OF THEM ARE GREAT!
